Wil Andersen (John Wayne) has a large herd of cattle he needs to drive to market and his wranglers have all abandoned him for the gold mines. He is going to lose everything if he doesn’t get the cattle there in time. He goes to the local school and offers a bunch of the adolescent boys there a chance to rustle cattle with him. He says this hands-on learning will be there chance to become men, so they all accept. Along the way, he teaches them the tricks of the trade. They also battle a gang of cattle thieves. They have a life changing journey where they become Cowboys.
