Wow… I don’t even know how to describe Kiddy Grade. It’s like some psychotic, screwed-up person without any sense of morals or logic – and with only basic intelligence – would create something like this. Do yourself a favour and don’t watch this series. It will make you sick. I hope whoever was involved in making this has gotten their psychiatric care since.
All I will say about this is, if this is how the world is going to be in the future or, more to the point, how people are going to be in the future, I’d hope aliens show up to put us out of our misery. But no, a world like this will never happen, not because people are nice but because there is no sense and logic in what’s going on. As the show seems to have had a pretty good budget – animation is good, the only thing that is – I have to wonder, which sick executive mind had given them money to do it? Why not spend it on Boys Be? Sickos. All of them.

Well, maybe I’m overreacting a bit. Kiddy Grade just feels wrong. Not unlike Ghost in the Shell: SOC which totalitarian governments of the world (and these days, that just about every one out there) should use as a propaganda tool. It suffers from totally inappropriate things at totally wrong times. For example, gratuitous fan service (front and center panty shots no less) in serious moments (these particular ones are actually not appropriate in almost any situation), occasional gratuitous nudity, characters which never grow up even when they’re hundreds of years old – so you can have a huge boobed (who still gets a breast enlargement during a plastic surgery later) supposedly under-18-but-not-looking-like-it girl next to her younger sister who seems only a few years younger yet is completely flat chested – you can see the target market. Then there’s cliched dialogue, laughable attempts at philosphy, illogical flow of action, irrational thoughts of characters, you name it.
Unfortunately, it looks very colorful and it has plenty of action that looks good for a TV series – it seems to have gotten quite a budget. It really baffles me – I would imagine a son of a rich person was either the manga-ka or more likely the director, so they got loads of cash to make this show.
